Sustainability and governance

The forest-based industries occupy a significant role in promoting sustainable development. Operations and solutions must be financially profitable, ecologically sustainable and socially acceptable.

The sustainability strategy guides MYLLYKOSKI’s environmental work and ties the sustainability issues to existing business management strategies. The corporate sustainability function is supported by the corporate responsibility committee, whose task is to enhance and broaden the scope of work towards economic and social issues including environmental matters. This provides a firm working platform to support a triple bottom line approach and management of sustainability issues.

MYLLYKOSKI is committed to continuous improvement in quality and environmental issues. All mills have set individual targets, with the focus on improving their environmental performance.
The main goals and focal areas of MYLLYKOSKI’s sustainability and corporate responsibility work in 2008 are the following:

  • To complete and implement environmental management, chain-of-custody and safety systems at all mills.
  • To increase the amount of certified fibre in the products.
  • To combat climate change by applying energy efficiency and conservation measures in accordance with MYLLYKOSKI’s energy strategy.
  • Based on the carbon footprint analysis of the MYLLYKOSKI products’ value chain, to establish a revised long-term development program with the aim of diminishing carbon dioxide emissions.
  • To ensure the implementation of the Code of Conduct within the company through extensive communication and relevant training programs.
