Environmental investments and other environmental protection costs

EUR 253 000 € was spent on environmental investments in 2007. The investments in the past few years have focused on closing water cycles, closing the old part of the landfill site, waste sorting at source, improving the efficiency of effluent treatment and on waste management arrangements. In the future, investments will increasingly focus on process changes made to prevent emissions.

The biggest investments in environmental protection recently have been the enlargement of biological treatment plant and the modernisation of the power plant. These investments have reduced effluent and airborne emissions. The mill's solid waste volumes have also reduced due to sludge combustion in the new fluidized bed boiler.

Year 2007 EUR 3,6 million was used in the operating expenses of environmental protection. Most of this is caused by operating the biological waste water treatment plant. Additional expenses arise from handling of wastes, operating the landfill site, environmental protection research and development projects and insurance contribution.
