Principles of wood procurement
Myllykoski Paper expects that its suppliers follow the principles defined in its operating policy. The wood raw material is procured from ecologically sustainably managed forests. Managing the chain of custody of the wood raw material is a part of the certified operating system. The operating methods are subject to internal audits and management reviews.

In 2007, 80.7% of the wood raw material (logs and pulp) delivered for the production of publication papers came from PEFC-certified forests. In September 2008, the percentage for the twelve preceding months reached 76.4%. |
Myllykoski Paper Oy's chain of custody for the wood raw material was certified in 2001 and again in 2005 according to the international PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) standards. The certified PEFC system is audited every year.
The chain of custody for the wood raw material was also certified in 2007 according to the international FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standards. Myllykoski Paper makes use of the FSC Credit System, offering FSC mixed products for sale. The certified FSC system is audited every year.
Metsäliitto procures and delivers the logs for Myllykoski Paper's needs according to the wood procurement contract between the companies. Myllykoski Paper uses about 620,000 solid cubic meters of spruce pulpwood annually. The origin of the wood is regularly reported to Myllykoski Paper Oy from the information systems of Metsäliitto. Most of the wood procured by the Cooperative comes from the private forests owned by its members.
The chain of custody for wood procured by Metsäliitto is certified according to both PEFC and FSC (Forestra Oy, a subsidiary of Metsäliitto) standards. The environmental policy of Metsäliitto's wood procurement and forest management can be found on Metsäliitto's internet page under Advancing sustainable forestry.
